Joliet West High School hosts community workshop on city’s comprehensive plan

Joliet West High School will serve as the venue for the first community workshop focused on the Joliet Comprehensive Plan. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the school's cafeteria. The workshop will be held in an open house format, allowing participants to drop in at any time during the session.

The school has invited families, students, and staff to attend and provide input regarding their priorities and vision for Joliet. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about ongoing planning efforts in the city.

"Joliet West High School is proud to be the host site for the first community workshop of the Joliet Comprehensive Plan. We encourage everyone to attend this open house style event where you can drop in at any time to offer input on your priorities and vision for Joliet while learning more about Joliet," reads a statement from the school.

Light refreshments and giveaways will be available at the event, and Spanish interpreters will be present for those who need language assistance.

Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 with an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 academic year. The student body includes approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and 1.7 percent Asian students according to data from Illinois Report Card. In that same year, grade 9 had the highest concentration of students at 27.3 percent of total enrollment (source).

The comprehensive plan aims to gather community feedback as part of its development process.
