Will County Clerk’s Office seeks student ambassadors for annual civic engagement program
Dr. Sean Hackney Assistant Principal | Joliet West High School

The Will County Clerk’s Office has announced the return of its 6th Annual Student Ambassador Program, a civic engagement initiative for high school juniors and seniors. The program is non-partisan and aims to give students practical experience with the electoral process.

According to the announcement, Student Ambassadors will learn about local elections and voting procedures, host voter registration drives at their schools—with support from the Will County Clerk’s Office and required school approval—and can apply to serve as Student Election Judges. Applications for these judge positions will be available in December 2025. Participants are also encouraged to motivate their classmates to become more involved in civic activities.

To be eligible, students must currently be juniors or seniors, reside in Will County or attend a high school within the county, and complete an application by October 1, 2025.

Joliet West High School is one of several area schools whose students may participate. The school serves grades 9 through 12 with an enrollment of 3,310 during the 2019-2020 academic year. Of those students, about a quarter were in grade 11 and another quarter in grade 12 during that period (Illinois Report Card).

An informational meeting titled “Pizza & Politics” will take place on Wednesday, October 8 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Will County Clerk’s Office located at 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet. This event will introduce interested students to the program and provide resources related to civic engagement.

Students who are currently age 17 but will turn 18 by November 3, 2026—and who are U.S. citizens—will have an opportunity to register to vote at this meeting if they bring two forms of identification (one showing current name and address).

For further information or questions about the program, students are encouraged to email or call (815) 740-4794.
