Joliet Township High School is inviting parents, guardians, students, faculty, and support staff to join the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee. The committee was previously known as the Discipline Committee and operates under Board of Education Policy 2:150.

The Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee discusses several topics that affect school operations. These include how medication is administered in schools, reciprocal reporting between the school district and local law enforcement about student criminal offenses, student behavior issues, disruptive classroom conduct, school bus safety procedures, and communication regarding student conduct. The committee may also assist in developing and monitoring behavioral intervention procedures for students with disabilities according to Board Policy 7:230.

Meetings are scheduled to take place in the Joliet Central Multipurpose Room from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 18, Sept. 25, Oct. 9, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18.

Dinner will be provided at each meeting and students who participate can earn community service hours. Participants are expected to attend all meetings.

Joliet West High School serves grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 school year in Joliet and Will County (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Of these students, grade nine had the highest concentration at 27.3 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), followed by grade twelve at 26.1 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), grade eleven at 25.1 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), and grade ten at 24.7 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The school's demographic breakdown includes approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and 1.7 percent Asian students during that same year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
