Dr. Brett Marcum Assistant Principal | Joliet West High School

As the first day of school approaches on Tuesday, August 19, Joliet West High School has released updated transportation information for families and students.

Students who live more than 1.5 miles from the school are eligible to ride a bus. The boundary details are available in an official document. Central and West bus routes have been posted online. Freshmen should follow the “Freshmen FIRST P/U” time, while upper-class students should use the “Upper Class FIRST P/U” time. Families are encouraged to check the Transportation Website regularly for any updates to routes.

Activity buses are provided only for Joliet Township High School students participating in or attending school-sponsored programs or activities. Students living more than 1.5 miles from school will be dropped off within three blocks of their home, while those residing within 1.5 miles will be dropped off within five blocks. The activity bus routes and schedule are available online.

The district warns that transportation delays may occur due to a shortage of bus drivers and transportation staff, especially at the start of the year. Families able to provide their own transportation are encouraged to do so. Student drivers and car riders should plan for increased traffic during drop-off times. Students who arrive late because of JTHS transportation delays will not be marked tardy.

The district notes that the shortage of bus drivers is a nationwide issue and is currently hiring for positions in its Transportation Department.

“We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to safely transport students to and from school.”

Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 with an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 academic year according to state data.
