Congressman Bill Foster has invited high school students and their families to attend the ROTC and Service Academy Day on Saturday, August 30. The event will take place from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Batavia Public Library, located at 10 S Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL 60510.

ROTC, or Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, is a college program that prepares students to become officers in the U.S. military while they earn their degree. It is available through all five branches of the military.

A guest speaker from the U.S. Air Force Academy will present information on behalf of all service academies during the event.

Students interested in being considered for a nomination to a service academy are encouraged to submit an application by October 30, 2025.

“If you have any questions, please contact our District Office at (630) 585-7672,” according to the announcement.

Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 and had an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 school year. The student body included approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, and 39 percent Hispanic students according to data from the Illinois Report Card (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Of these students, grade nine had the highest concentration with about 27.3 percent of total enrollment (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
