Joliet West High School is inviting students to join the 2025-2026 Student Ambassador Union. The program, overseen by Mrs. Kristine Schlismann, Director of Community and Alumni Relations, and Superintendent Dr. Karla Guseman, offers students a chance to represent their school through community presentations, volunteer service, and school tours.

Mrs. Schlismann explained the process for interested students: “When you sign up to be a Student Ambassador, you join an email list.  When opportunities arise, you will receive an email from me, and you can choose to participate in the opportunity, or you can decline.  The Student Ambassador experience is as much as you choose to make it.” She also noted that participation in at least two ambassador opportunities is required for students who wish to include this activity on their resumes or college applications.

Students are asked to document their participation by bringing a form to each event and submitting a signed copy to Mrs. Schlismann and their school counselor.

Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 in Joliet and Will County with an enrollment of 3,310 during the 2019-2020 school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The student body includes approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and 1.7 percent Asian students according to the Illinois Report Card (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The largest group of students at Joliet West are freshmen; during the same period, grade 9 accounted for 27.3 percent of enrollment (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Other grades were distributed with grade 10 at about 24.7 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), grade 11 at roughly 25.1 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), and grade 12 making up about 26.1 percent of all students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

“We are looking forward to a great school year!” said Mrs. Schlismann.
