The Will County Center for Economic Development (CED), in partnership with Joliet Township High School District (JTHS), launched the Will County Summer Internship Program in 2023. The program aims to help students explore career options, build community relationships, and gain practical work experience through internships.
As the program prepares for its third year, CED is seeking to expand participation to additional schools across Will County by summer 2026. Organizers are inviting local businesses and organizations interested in hosting interns to attend an informational breakfast about the initiative.
The CED Summer Internship Informational Breakfast will take place on Tuesday, September 9 at the JTHS Administrative Center located at 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet. The event will begin with coffee and conversations from 8 to 8:30 a.m., followed by a program from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
At the breakfast, attendees can learn about hosting high school interns, explore sponsorship opportunities, network with other local stakeholders, and support efforts to strengthen the regional workforce pipeline.
“Join us and be part of shaping the future workforce of Will County!” organizers stated.
Joliet West High School serves grades nine through twelve and had an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 school year. The student body included approximately 27 percent ninth graders—the largest class size—followed by nearly equal proportions of sophomores, juniors, and seniors according to data from the Illinois Report Card. Demographically, Joliet West’s student population was composed of about 35 percent white students, 21 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and less than two percent Asian students (source).
