The Village Board in Shorewood, Illinois, has ratified a contract with Austin Tyler Construction to enhance nearly three miles of roadways throughout the community. This initiative represents an investment of approximately $1.6 million and will involve asphalt pavement repairs, curb and sidewalk replacements, and the upgrading of ADA-accessible sidewalks at intersections.

Work is scheduled to commence in mid-April, contingent on weather conditions. It will begin with repairs to existing curbs and sidewalks, alongside ADA upgrades at intersections. According to the village's announcement, most concrete repairs will take one to two days. During these repairs, residents may experience temporary inconveniences, such as restricted access to driveways, for which they will be notified on the day of removal.

Asphalt grinding will follow the concrete work in preparation for the new pavement surface. Temporary ramps will be available to maintain access to driveways during the construction. Before laying the final asphalt, the contractor will apply a liquid asphalt 'prime' coating over the streets, which is notably tacky. Signs reading 'Fresh Oil' will be posted during this phase, and residents are urged to drive slowly to avoid tracking the material onto driveways.

Public safety remains a top priority for the village. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and drive carefully through construction zones. The board acknowledges the potential for temporary inconveniences and appreciates residents' patience during the project's progression.

For further inquiries or concerns about the project, residents can contact the Public Works Department at 815-553-2321.
