Joliet Township High School (JTHS) is promoting its Summer Reading Program to combat the typical reading decline observed during the summer break. JTHS invites students and their families to participate by offering a selection of recommended novels.
The list of novels includes 'Promise Boys', 'Atomic Habits', 'Under the Mesquite', 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind', 'The Alchemist', and 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'.
Dr. Sharon Y. Alexander, the English Curriculum Director at JTHS, explains, "We hope you’ll join us in summer reading!" She also encourages reading through the program and further visits to local public libraries.
To receive a free book, current and incoming JTHS students are asked to fill out the relevant forms for book requests. Dr. Alexander adds that students will get their books delivered to their English or Language Arts classrooms by the end of the school year.
Students must submit their requests by April 25, 2025, to guarantee delivery. For late requests, books can be collected from Joliet Central or Joliet West's main office during summer hours.
Dr. Alexander is available for any inquiries at salexander@jths.org or by calling 815-727-6985.
