There will be no classes for students at Joliet West High School on Monday, October 13. Classes are set to resume on Tuesday, October 14.

Joliet West High School’s Homecoming weekend begins on October 10 with a parade at 4:15 p.m., followed by the Homecoming football game against Plainfield East at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and tickets are available through pre-sale only. The Homecoming Dance is scheduled for October 11 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The City of Joliet will host a Disability Pride Fair on October 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bicentennial Park. The event marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and will include resources, music, food trucks, games, and opportunities to connect with vendors and legislators. ASL interpreters will be present.

On October 14, Joliet West High School will hold its annual Pink Heals JT Volleyball Fundraiser in the West Gymnasium. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., with JV/Freshman A & B games starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by a Survivor Walk and then the varsity game. Admission is free, and donations are accepted.

The second annual Community Connections Expo will take place on October 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Joliet Central High School. The event includes a job fair, resource tables, food vendors, live music, and workshops aimed at preparing students and families for college and careers. Students can earn two community service hours by attending a workshop.

A free “Finding Free Money for College” workshop is being offered by the Joliet Community YMCA on October 18 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Joliet Junior College Event Center.

The Grandparents Raising Children support group meets next on October 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., providing support to grandparents and non-custodial caregivers navigating educational and public service systems.

The JTHS Board of Education’s next meeting is scheduled for October 21 at Joliet West High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Visitors may enter through Door 5 (Cafeteria) and park in any available spot. Individuals wishing to make public comments must sign up before 6:50 p.m.

Joliet Junior College will host a Dual Credit Information Night on October 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its Main Campus U-Auditorium for high school students and their families interested in earning college credit while still in high school.

Joliet Central’s Clerical Union invites families to its annual Trunk or Treat event on October 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Pathways Campus parking lot at 110 N. Collins. The event is open to children under age thirteen who are encouraged to wear costumes.

Joliet West High School will also host its Trunk or Treat event on October 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the north parking lot next to the tennis courts. The event is open to students and children under age thirteen, with costumes encouraged.

Parent Teacher Conferences for Semester One will be held virtually on Thursday, October 23 from 4 to 7 p.m., and Friday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students are dismissed early at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday; there are no classes for students on Friday.

The Joliet West High School Theatre Department presents “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” as its fall play production from October 24-26 in the school auditorium. Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

The Joliet Community YMCA hosts a free Monster Mash family event on October 25 from 1–3 p.m. at The Salvation Army Community Center in Joliet. Costumes are encouraged; space is limited and registration is required by October 19.

Mentors are needed for the Winter Athlete Mentorship Dinner for senior students at Joliet West High School Cafeteria on November 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with dinner provided free of charge for participants.

November 20 is designated as an early release School Improvement Day; Central, West, and Pathway students are dismissed at various times depending on their program schedule.

Joliet West High School serves grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of over three thousand students during the 2019-2020 school year. The student body consists of approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and 1.7 percent Asian students. In that same year, 27.3 percent of all students were in grade nine, which was the largest class concentration.
