A new job shadowing event is being offered to students at Joliet Township High Schools. The opportunity will take place at Professional’s Choice Hair Academy on October 21, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
According to the announcement, students participating in the event will tour the hair school, meet and shadow current students, and learn about the program structure and qualifications. The event is aimed at those interested in cosmetology, hair design, or considering a hands-on career in the beauty industry.
"Students interested in cosmetology, hair design, or exploring a hands-on career in the beauty industry," are encouraged to attend, according to organizers.
To participate, students are instructed to register online for step-by-step instructions and submit a signed permission form to their campus College & Career Center. The field trip form can be downloaded from the designated site. Participation is limited to 30 students.
Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 and had an enrollment of 3,310 during the 2019-2020 school year. The student body includes approximately 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, 39 percent Hispanic students, and 1.7 percent Asian students as reported by the Illinois Report Card (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Of these students, grade 9 had the highest concentration with 27.3 percent of all enrolled (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
The job shadowing opportunity provides a way for interested high schoolers to explore future careers in the beauty industry.
