Joliet Township High School is inviting its alumni working in science, engineering, or mathematics to participate in a project for Hispanic Heritage Month. The school’s Science National Honor Society students are preparing posters that will highlight the achievements of Hispanic scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.
“We would love to feature Joliet Township High School graduates who are making an impact in these fields,” the school stated. “Are you an alum working in science, engineering, or math? Share your name and story with us! Please complete our brief form.”
The initiative aims to honor the accomplishments of alumni and inspire current students. “Let’s honor the accomplishments of our alumni and inspire the next generation of JTHS scholars,” according to the announcement.
Joliet West High School serves grades 9 through 12 and had an enrollment of 3,310 students during the 2019-2020 academic year. The school is located in Joliet within Will County (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). According to data from that year, grade 9 had the highest percentage of students at 27.3 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), followed by grade 12 at 26.1 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), grade 11 at 25.1 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/), and grade 10 at 24.7 percent (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
Demographic information from the same period shows that Joliet West High School’s student body was composed of approximately 39 percent Hispanic students, along with 34.9 percent white students, 21.2 percent black students, and 1.7 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
