Joliet West High School will host a Family Information Night on Wednesday, September 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The event is open to families of students who receive Special Education services and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) at Joliet Township High School.
The evening aims to provide information, tools, and strategies for supporting students with IEPs. Organizers say the event is intended to help strengthen the partnership between home and school. Childcare will be available during the event.
Attendees are asked to enter through Door 5, located at the cafeteria entrance off Glenwood Avenue. Parking will be available in any open spot.
Topics planned for discussion include transitioning into high school with an IEP, postsecondary planning and community supports, understanding Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), details about IEPs, supporting students at home, participation in IEP meetings, related services such as social work and speech therapy, accommodations, and employability skills.
“Whether you're new to the IEP process or looking to deepen your involvement, this is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and connect with staff and other families,” organizers said. “We look forward to seeing you there!”
