Students at Joliet West High School are invited to join the Student Advisory Committee, which provides an opportunity to represent their school and earn community service hours. The committee is open to students from all JTHS campuses and meets on School Improvement Days from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the JTHS Administrative Center, located at 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet. Lunch will be available at noon before each meeting.

The Student Advisory Committee is described as a diverse group that reflects the overall student body across JTHS campuses. It is led by Superintendent Dr. Karla Guseman, who brings together students every School Improvement Early Release SIP Day for discussions about district and building policies, procedures, and programs. According to the announcement, “Topics of research and discussion will be student-led, providing a direct voice to your school.” The group aims to provide feedback directly to principals, superintendents, and the Board of Education.

Participation in each meeting counts for five community service hours. Students can also earn additional hours through research and group work outside of regular meetings.

Transportation options are provided for those without personal transportation. A shuttle bus will transport students from their campus after early release dismissal—departing from Central Field House or Door 5 (Cafeteria) at West—and return them in time for the 4:30 p.m. activity bus.

Students interested in joining must complete a form by August 29. Returning members should also fill out this form if they wish to participate again this year. More information will be shared closer to the first meeting date on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
