Joliet West High School has announced that ten students from its media program reached the IHSA State Journalism Finals. The event was held at Heartland Community College, where students demonstrated their skills across various journalism categories.

The school is keen to highlight the achievements of two seniors. Eli Pearson won the state championship in advertising. Previously, he'd placed fourth in the same category at the state level. Pearson, who contributes to the Alpha Omega Yearbook, plans to study art education. His participation in the journalism program spans three years.

Another senior, Alih Rangel, ranked in the top six for yearbook layout. Rangel is the Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook and a graphic designer for the school newspaper. Her engagement with the journalism program covers four years, and she is also a four-time state qualifier and champion. She is working on publishing her first novel, aspiring to be a published author.

"The competition brought together the best young journalists from across the state," a representative noted, expressing pride in the students' recognition. Their achievements underscore a commitment to journalism and storytelling.

"Congratulations to Eli, Alih, and all our students for their remarkable accomplishments at the IHSA State Journalism Finals," the school stated, emphasizing the students' hard work.
