FEMA seeks young leaders for youth preparedness council
Tecara Parker Principal | Joliet West High School

FEMA is inviting applications for the Youth Preparedness Council (YPC), which unites young leaders interested in disaster preparedness and community service. This initiative offers students the chance to hone leadership skills, work with peers nationwide, and significantly impact preparedness efforts.

Participating in the YPC allows students to engage in practical disaster preparedness projects, shape national initiatives, and collaborate directly with FEMA and other emergency management professionals. "It’s an incredible platform for developing valuable skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving," states FEMA. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of public service and emergency response while making positive contributions to their communities.

This program offers students a rare opportunity to join an influential network, acquire professional experience, and lead projects that can make a substantial difference during crises. Applications are due by March 3, 2025.

Prospective applicants can attend information sessions on January 30 or February 11 by registering on Zoom. The program is open to students from 8th to 11th grades. Interested individuals can apply through the FEMA YPC Application Page.
