Essence of Life, a boutique-style studio located at 401 Earl Road Unit F in Shorewood, offers a space for community connection through exercise and mindfulness practices. Opened by Jodie Baudek in 2004, the studio welcomes service animals and is pet-friendly.
Baudek's journey into fitness began with Karate and Judo as a child, leading to a career that started with Jazzercise. "I just really loved being up on the stage and seeing people get it," she said. Her passion led her to create Essence of Life, where she designed her own programs starting with Reiki and personal training.
The studio now offers a variety of services including Reiki sessions, personal training, Yoga classes, Pilates classes, facials, and more. "You’re seen, and there’s no competition here. There’s no judgment," Baudek emphasized.
Essence of Life provides fitness classes such as Yoga, mat Pilates, and reformer Pilates led by certified instructors. Personal sessions are also available. Interested individuals can view class schedules or register for sessions on the Essence of Life website.
In an interview, Baudek shared insights about her business philosophy: "I’ve had bricks-and-mortar since 2004... A hundred people in a room doesn’t bother me... but that’s why I chose to do boutique-style."
She advises those starting their wellness journey not to give up Yoga: "Yoga is something that you can do your entire life." On Pilates: "It’s incredible... if you can merge the two of them together in your life."
Baudek also explained the difference between Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates: "Mat Pilates is usually done on the floor... what the reformer does is it lengthens you."
Her wellness program includes various exercises and encourages acts of kindness in the community. Baudek emphasizes self-care: "Your self-care is not selfish... when you feel good, you do good."
Baudek was inspired to open her studio in Shorewood after visiting a friend's professional salon concepts space. She invites everyone to visit Essence of Life: "You deserve to feel good about yourself."
