Illinois schools announce key dates and reminders for late November
Scott Laken Dean Of Students, (A – Cog) | Joliet West High School

Families and students in Illinois are reminded of several upcoming events and important notices from the school district. On November 15, School Board Appreciation Day was observed, acknowledging the service of the Board of Education to schools and the community.

A reminder has been issued regarding items prohibited on school property. The district warns that certain items, considered weapons, can lead to expulsion recommendations and police involvement if brought onto school grounds or events. Recent incidents have involved Orbeez water pellet guns, which are not allowed on campus despite being perceived as toys. Families are encouraged to discuss this matter with their children.

Breakfast is available daily at JTHS campuses for $2, following USDA guidelines. Students must use their accounts for purchases as cash is not accepted.

The Grandparents Raising Children support group will meet on November 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., offering assistance to grandparents and non-custodial caregivers.

The JTHS Board of Education meeting is scheduled for November 19 at 7 p.m. at the JTHS Administrative Center. Public comments require sign-up before 6:50 p.m., and meetings can be accessed remotely.

November 21 marks a School Improvement Day with early release times varying by program: Central, West, and Pathway students at 11:45 a.m., AVAC students at 11:30 a.m., and Transition Center students at 10:45 a.m.

On the same day, the Special Services Department hosts the annual Joliet Central Pack the House event featuring a Special Olympics Basketball Game starting at 4:30 p.m. Donations benefit Special Olympics programs.

Also on November 21, those interested in preserving JTHS history can attend the Central Archives Committee meeting at Central's third-floor archives area starting at 7 p.m.

A free food giveaway event by Hands of Hope Center will take place on November 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No registration is required for families receiving groceries or hot meals.

Finally, there will be no school from November 27-29 due to Thanksgiving Holiday celebrations.
