Families and students are encouraged to nominate a Joliet Township High School (JTHS) teacher for the 2026 Great Teacher Award, organized by the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Nominations require a summary of 500 words or less explaining why the teacher deserves recognition, with a deadline set for November 10.

Several events and meetings are scheduled in the coming weeks for students, families, and community members. The Joliet Community YMCA will host a free workshop on finding college funding on October 18 at Joliet Junior College Event Center. On October 21, the Grandparents Raising Children support group will meet to provide assistance to grandparents and non-custodial caregivers navigating educational and public service systems.

The JTHS Board of Education invites the public to its next meeting on October 21 at 7 p.m., held in the auditorium at Joliet West High School. Visitors should enter through Door 5 (Cafeteria), with parking available onsite. Public comments can be made by signing up before 6:50 p.m.

Joliet Junior College is hosting a Dual Credit Information Night on October 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at its main campus U-Auditorium. The event aims to inform high school students and their families about earning college credit while still in high school, as well as financial savings and academic preparation.

Community Halloween events include Trunk-or-Treat gatherings at both Joliet Central (October 22, Pathways Campus parking lot) and Joliet West (October 22, north parking lot near tennis courts). Both events welcome children under age 13 and encourage costumes.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled virtually for October 23 from 4 to 7 p.m., and October 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students are dismissed early on October 23 at 1:15 p.m., with no classes on October 24.

The Joliet West High School Theatre Department will present its fall play, "A Bad Year for Tomatoes," with performances on October 24-26 in the school auditorium. Tickets are available online.

On October 25, the Joliet Community YMCA hosts a Monster Mash event from 1–3 p.m. at The Salvation Army Community Center in Joliet, featuring crafts, dancing, stories, and more for families who register by October 19.

Veterans are invited to attend the annual Veterans Ceremony on November 7 at Joliet Central Auditorium beginning at 2:20 p.m., where they may receive recognition during the program.

Students can explore college opportunities at the Betty Mahone Joliet Area Black College & Career Fair on November 9 at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church from 2 to 5 p.m., which includes access to HBCU recruiters, local colleges, scholarship information, and community organizations.

The Central Archives Committee seeks volunteers interested in preserving JTHS history; their next meeting is November 13 at Central’s third-floor archives area.

Families interested in supporting athletics can join the JT Boosters; their next meeting is November 12 at the Administrative Center.

Mentors are needed for the West Winter Athlete Mentorship Dinner for senior students on November 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Joliet West Cafeteria; dinner is provided free of charge for participants.

November’s School Improvement Day falls on November 20 with early release schedules varying by campus; details are available via attendance calendars.

Joliet West High School serves grades nine through twelve with an enrollment of over three thousand students during the 2019-2020 school year. In that year, grade nine had the highest concentration of students—27.3 percent—while other grades ranged between approximately one-quarter each of total enrollment (source). The student body was composed of roughly thirty-five percent white students, twenty-one percent black students, thirty-nine percent Hispanic students, and nearly two percent Asian students (source).
