Joliet West High School has issued new guidelines for student drop-off, pick-up, and parking as the first day of school approaches on August 19. The school is emphasizing safety and patience with over 4,000 students and staff expected to leave the campus simultaneously.
The administration urges families not to drop students off on Glenwood Avenue while cars are stopped in the street, as this practice violates traffic laws and increases safety risks. Vehicles should enter the lot on Glenwood Avenue near the tennis courts, proceed to the last row of parked cars, turn left, and move into one of two designated lanes. The lane closest to the school is reserved for buses.
Upon exiting, vehicles should merge into turning lanes and use appropriate lanes when turning onto Glenwood Avenue. Between 8 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:45 to 3:30 p.m., vehicles will be restricted from entering near the cafeteria or main entrance at Larkin and Glenwood to allow safe bus operations.
Student drivers are reminded of updated parking expectations available online. Although paved lot passes have been issued for the upcoming year, passes for a gravel lot remain available through an application process that concluded on July 17.
The school appreciates cooperation in maintaining a safe environment. "Go Tigers and thank you for showing your Tiger Pride!"
