Winter STAR testing scheduled at Joliet Township High School
Ronda Orasco Registrar | Joliet West High School

Joliet Township High School (JTHS) students in grades 9-12 participate annually in the STAR Reading and Mathematics Benchmarking Assessments. These assessments are conducted through English and math classrooms, typically in fall, winter, and spring. The purpose is to guide instruction, offer personalized learning, and enhance student growth in math and reading.

The data from these assessments are used to determine course placement, content needs, and whether additional support is necessary for students. Teachers collaborate with students on setting goals based on the assessment results. Fall results were shared in November, and preparations are underway for the winter assessment.

The upcoming winter assessments will take place from Monday, December 9 to Friday, December 13 in English or math classrooms.

Students are encouraged to prepare by ensuring their laptops are charged for testing, getting adequate rest beforehand, eating a nutritious meal before testing, and taking the assessments seriously as they can impact course placements and college readiness. Students should also review instructions carefully to avoid missing questions they may know.

The school advises students to look for improvements since the fall assessment and work with family or teachers on areas needing improvement. They should approach the tests calmly and give their best effort.
